his collaborative approach towards Sustainable Development 1 day Context M
achakos County\, has seen significant economic and social development over
the past decade\, the county still faces critical challenges such as pove
rty\, food insecurity\, water scarcity\, poor healthcare access\, and clim
ate change effects[1]. Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and non-profits
play a critical role in addressing developmental challenges and fostering
community-driven solutions. In Kenya\, at the national level and within th
e counties\, Civil society and non-profits have been integral in filling g
aps where government interventions may fall short\, particularly in rural
areas. In Machakos County\, CSOs and non-profits play a critical role in c
omplementing government efforts in sectors such as health\, education\, wa
 ter\, sanitation\, climate action\, governance\, and economic empowerment.
Despite these efforts\, there is limited coordination among the various o
rganizations working in Machakos. Duplication of efforts\, competition for
resources\, and insufficient knowledge exchange have been highlighted as
major barriers to sustainable development in the region[2]. Recognizing th
e need for collaboration\, knowledge exchange\, and capacity building\, Th
e County Government of Machakos in collaboration with Sustainable Africa I
nnovators (SUS-AFRIC) www.sus-afric.org invites Civil Society and Non-Prof
its stakeholder’s working in Machakos County to a roundtable meeting. Pu
rpose of the meeting This forum will aim to foster partnerships for SDGs\,
share best practices\, align efforts with the Sustainable Development Goa
ls (SDGs)\, and strengthen the role of CSOs and nonprofit organizations in
addressing development challenges\, through collaboration with the County
Government of Machakos in a transparent accountable manner. Additionally\
, focusing on programs/projects impacts and sustainability. [...]
